Advancing the Field With Technology
Augmented Reality Improves Spine Surgery
HSS spine surgeons are using innovative technology to provide ultraprecise positioning of implants and smaller incisions, leading to faster recovery for patients. HSS Spine Co-Chief Harvinder Sandhu, MD, MBA, performed the first surgery using augmented reality earlier this year and is leading surgeons in using the new system, now available at HSS Stamford Health.

Eradicating Infection
Leading the Fight Through Research
 |
Patients who develop infections after joint replacement surgery can experience severe consequences—debilitating pain and immobility, multiple surgeries, and possibly loss of a limb. Under the direction of HSS Chief Emeritus of Surgical Arthritis Mark P. Figgie, MD, HSS has launched the Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) Research Initiative to define the global standard for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of this devastating condition.
